Programs
ENRICHMENT
In addition to the indoor classroom and the outdoor yard, we offer several enrichment programs, providing expert teaching and dedicated equipment not usually found in the Montessori environment.
What to Expect
Our Program's Unique Features
Art
Our light-filled dedicated art studio gives children the chance to explore the fine arts. Our art teacher, Chandelle, provides painting, ceramics, and sculpture lessons in the studio and in the classrooms. We also have a kiln where we can fire children’s clay creations.
Music
Our music teacher, Doris Atkinson, brings Music Together to all the classrooms once a week, teaching a variety of musical instruments, listening skills, rhythm, and of course a love of music.
The nationwide Music Together curriculum includes an illustrated songbook and downloads to practice at home. Music Together emphasizes adult participation in children’s musical learning, and teachers participate every week and include Music Together songs in circle everyday.
Twice a year, Doris leads a special sing-along where children can share their newly discovered musical modes and meters with their families. For our Winter Sing-Along, we also sing some traditional holiday songs, and for our End Of Year Party, we always end with the Hokey Pokey.
Gymnastics
We have worked with Oakland-based Fitness in Transit fitness and dance program for more than 20 years. Heather Baer and her staff bring equipment to OMS once a week for our older, toilet-trained, children to develop their gross-body movements, tumbling skills, and patience.
Dimond Park
We love our neighborhood, and Dimond Park is just down the street. Sausal Creek, three playgrounds, and the towering redwood trees are a wonderful extension to our own expansive yard.
Dimond Library
Dimond Library, down the street in the opposite direction of the park, also offers endless exploration. Children may choose and borrow books on their own library cards, or they may use a teacher’s card.
What People are Saying
Parent Review
"Our experience at OMS has been incredibly positive for both our child and us as parents. Our child is always excited to go to school and returns home feeling fulfilled and happy. We appreciate how the school maintains the core Montessori principles, ensuring a learning environment that’s both structured and flexible. The child-led approach fosters independence and curiosity, while allowing her to explore at her own pace. The individualized attention she receives ensures she thrives in a way that suits her unique needs. During parent-teacher conferences, the teachers’ observations align perfectly with what we see at home, giving us confidence in the school’s approach. Additionally, OMS has a wonderfully supportive parent community, and we’ve made lasting friendships that will continue for years to come. We are so pleased with our experience that we will be sending our second child to OMS as well. We are grateful for the nurturing, enriching, and Montessori-centered environment at OMS!"
