My brother and I attended Oakland Montessori School as children when my mother, Tanya Reuvekamp, was a teacher here, and in high school I became a teaching aide during the summers. Both my mother and my grandmother ran Montessori schools and I attended Montessori through 6th grade, so I have always regarded the Montessori Method as the most natural approach to student learning.
I have degrees from UC Berkeley and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, none of which are in Education. When looking for tenure-track academic positions after finishing a PhD, I realized that I preferred teaching the 3-6 age range in a Montessori setting rather than the 18 and older age range in a lecture setting. I spent several years learning how to teach in the Primary classroom, and then completed formal Montessori Training and an MA in Education from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2012.
